U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Kimball (WMSL 765) crewmembers watch as a fuel hose is passed to the USCGC Bailey Barco (WPC-1122) during the first Astern Fueling at Sea (AFAS) evolution between a national security cutter and a fast response cutter in the Bering Sea, July 2, 2024. The AFAS extended the endurance of the Bailey Barco and resulted in Bailey Barco’s crew conducting over 10 vessel boardings in Bristol Bay, Alaska, an area not routinely accessed by FRCs due to logistical constraints.
