Callao, Peru (July 08, 2024) Dr. Carmen Flores, a medical research technologist with U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) SOUTH’s Entomology Department, describes recent accomplishments and ongoing research goals to Stephanie Syptak-Ramnath, U.S. Ambassador to Peru, and Rear Adm. Oscar Oliva Angulo, director of Peruvian Navy Health. Syptak-Ramnath and Oliva visited NAMRU SOUTH to learn about the command’s capabilities and ongoing research efforts between the U.S. and Peru. Part of the Navy Medicine Research & Development enterprise, NAMRU SOUTH conducts research on a wide range of infectious diseases of military and public health significance and supports Global Health Engagement through surveillance of those diseases, including dengue fever, malaria, diarrheal diseases and antimicrobial-resistant infections.
