DIEGO GARCIA, British Indian Ocean Territory (July 3, 2024) -- Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class Corryn Mitchell, from Cumberland, Maryland, assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Russell (DDG 59), fires an M4 rifle during a security reaction force weapons qualifications course onboard Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, July 3, 2024. Russell, part of Carrier Strike Group Nine, is conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
