Lance Cpl. Christopher Reyes of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit directs a High-Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle up a concrete ramp so that its undercarriage can be cleaned of all organic matter prior to a customs inspection. The Navy instituted equipment wash downs to prevent non-native organisms from reaching U.S. soil where they might prove devastating to U.S agriculture. Amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa and embarked 11th MEU are currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations and are conducting Maritime Security Operations. MSO help set the conditions for security in the maritime environment. From security, arises stability that results in global economic prosperity. MSO complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations and seek to disrupt use of the maritime environment by violent extremists as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
