This thermal foot manikin was used by the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II to evaluate the insulating properties of military aircrew boots. It has an electroplated copper shell and internal electrical circuits that uniformly heat the shell. This allowed researchers to study heat loss through aircrew boots under a variety of simulated conditions. The device was manufactured by General Electric Co.
