The Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Carlos Del Toro, greets U.S. Marines and Sailors with the Wasp (WSP) Amphibious Readiness Group (ARG)-24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC), at an 80th D-Day anniversary ceremony in Cherbourg, France, June 7, 2024. U.S. military personnel and NATO Allies and partners are commemorating the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, widely known as D-Day. The WSP ARG-24th MEU (SOC) is conducting operations in U.S. Naval Forces Europe area of operations to support high-end warfighting exercises while demonstrating speed and agility operating in a dynamic security environment.
