The purpose of a reconnaissance patrol is to gather intelligence, conduct surveillance, and provide timely information about potential enemy movements, terrain, and other relevant factors to support military operations. Cowling, a native of Missouri, is an infantry officer forward deployed in the Indo-Pacific region under 4th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division as part of the Unit Deployment Program.
