Staff Sgt. Daniel Schnaars uses a pallet spear to grab and lift a top net from a tall pallet so Staff Sgt. Kirk Laytart can pull it off and away from the pallet during the breaking down process. In the absence of a pallet spear, cargo handlers would either use a hydraulic lift system to lower the pallet below ground level, or, when that equipment is unavailable, climb up on a ladder to reach the snag points on the top of the pallet and remove the net.
