Know Your Warrior Spc. Tony Un

Meet Spc. Tony Un, an air defense battle management system operator with Headquarters Support Company, 29th Infantry Division. This Connecticut-born Soldier has made his home in Virginia and is currently deployed to Utska, Poland, May 9, 2024, in support of Immediate Response 24, where he and his team are responsible for watching the skies for any incursions and if they find any, to report them up so they can be dealt with.

Un is a semiconductor repair technician in his civilian life, but his job excitement comes from his Army job.

“I have been hoping to do this job since I joined. Now I’m here,” said Un.

As an air defense battle management system operator his job is to constantly watch the skies for aerial or missile attacks. Identifying incoming threats is critical for the safety of troops and equipment on the ground.

“My career goal is to learn more systems and eventually become a warrant officer,” said Un.

Un’s parents were survivors of the Cambodian Kymer Rouge genocide. They became refugees and finally made it to the U.S. where they now take pride in seeing their son in the U.S. Army uniform.

“I wanted to serve because I knew there would be a time I would regret not serving my country,” said Un.
