    U.S. Naval Forces Central Command / U.S. 5th Fleet

Sailors and Marines launch a raiding craft combat rubber inflatable (CRRC) from the well deck of amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa (LHA 1) to conduct training evolutions. CRRCs are used to conduct insertions of Marine personnel ashore prior to the initiation of the amphibious movement of the Marine Expeditionary Unit. Tarawa and the embarked 11th MEU are on a regularly scheduled deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operation in support of Maritime Security Operations. MSO helps set the conditions for security in the maritime environment, which promotes stability and global prosperity. These operations complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations and seek to disrupt violent extremists' use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
