During the 2024 Department of the Air Force Modeling and Simulation Summit in San Antonio, Texas, May 7-9, 2024, attendees heard from various experts across the Department of Defense on various topics relating to “Training in a Digital World,” which was the theme of the event. The training modernization discussion panel included Caroline Baxter, deputy assistant secretary of defense for force education and training; Dr. Wendy D. Walsh, Air Education and Training Command’s chief learning officer; Lea T. Kirkwood, program executive officer and director for the Agile Combat Support Directorate at the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center; and Len Granowetter, chief technical officer and vice president for engineering, MAK; and Rahul C. Thakkar, president, BISim. The panel discussion addressed the critical need for Department of the Air Force training modernization and reorientation to counteract strategic competition in the air, space, cyber and information domains.
