The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has removed overgrowth of trees and plants as well as excess sediment from Ditch No. 5, shown here. This ditch is a part of the island’s drainage system designed to efficiently channel excess water away from vulnerable areas, preventing flooding, saltwater intrusion, water stagnation and minimizing soil erosion. This is shown at the culvert end before it enters the South Channel.
