An official from the Environmental Protection Agency, right, inspects spill containment measures with members of Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) prior to the removal of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) concentrate from the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF), April 8, 2024. Over 1,000 gallons of AFFF concentrate were safely drained from the AFFF system once the operation was completed, and will soon be removed from the facility, thus removing a major threat to the aquifer. NCTF-RH is working with government agencies and community stakeholders to safely and deliberately close the RHBFSF underground storage tanks and associated piping system, conduct long-term environmental remediation, and ensure continued access to safe drinking water in compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws, policies, and regulations.
