U.S. Army 1st Lt. Connor Beckman, 9th Cavalry Regiment platoon leader, gives visitors a tour of a static display M1A1 Abrams main battle tank at The Great Texas Airshow, April 5, 2024, at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. The M1 serves the U.S. Army with advanced armor, superior maneuverability, low profile, chemical overpressure system, and compartmentalized fuel and ammunition stores which provide the crew with levels of battlefield protection that surpass any other tank, and its main gun is capable of making catastrophic kills in excess of 3,000 meters. Static displays give community members the opportunity to see inside some of the Air Force’s most important assets and talk to the Airmen who use and maintain them.
