From left to right; Cadet Petty Officer 3rd Class Cash Lutz, Cadet Ens. Jacob Ellis, Cadet Lt. Cmdr. Maddy Pickering and Cadet Lt. j.g. Gianna Ochoa, NJROTC cadets from Bastrop High School present the colors while the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters chorus performs the Star-Spangled Banner at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts to open the ensemble’s performance on their 2024 national tour. Established in 1964, the NJROTC program is conducted at accredited secondary schools throughout the nation by instructors who are retired Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel. The curriculum emphasizes citizenship and leadership development, as well as maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation and meteorology.

The performance in Bastrop marked the Sea Chanters’ 19th day of their 21 day national tour. The Navy’s premier choir will travel 2500 miles over 21 days across five states on their 2024 national tour to connect Americans from all walks of life to their Navy while honoring veterans and inspiring future service.
