Dr. Kyle McCormick, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) scientific recovery expert (SRE), excavates soil in a unit during a recovery mission in the Kingdom of Thailand, Feb. 27, 2024. If remains or material evidence are found on site, they are transported to the DPAA laboratory, where they undergo further analysis and cataloging. The forensic anthropologist who completes this analysis in the lab is not the same as the one who accomplished the field recovery, in order to prevent bias on the case.
