Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force leadership offload from a JGSDF CH-47JA Chinook alongside U.S. Marine Corps leadership with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, during flight operations, part of Iron Fist 24, aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20), in the Philippine Sea, Mar. 9, 2024. An effective preventative measure for mishaps is training, ensuring our service members are prepared to operate under any circumstances and in any operating environment. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force, and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
