SILVER SPRING, Md. (Feb. 23, 2024) Dr. Biswajit Biswas, a medical researcher from Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC), presents to fellow staff and command leadership on the history and current applications of phage therapy. Phage therapy makes use of bacteriophages, the prokaryotic viruses that are capable of killing bacteria, to treat infections. Bacteriophages are very effective to treat multidrug resistant bacterial infections and can be used alone or with antibiotics. NMRC conducts medical research, development, testing, evaluation and surveillance to optimize health, operational readiness and performance of Navy, Marine Corps and joint force personnel; delivering world-class, operationally-relevant medical solutions to enhance warfighter readiness through research & development.
