U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 47th Operational Support Squadron radar approach control (RAPCON) track and monitor aircraft as they fly in the airspace around Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, Feb. 12, 2024. RAPCON provides crucial information to pilots overhead, directing aircraft on vectors to maintain proper spacing for incoming and outgoing aircraft to help prevent midair collisions. RAPCON begins to get in contact with aircraft when they are about 60 miles away from Laughlin, providing information to pilots about where they should fly to stay safe.
