The USCGC Pamlico (WLIC–800) arrives at Woldenberg Park, carrying King Zulu and company, New Orleans, Feb. 12, 2024. It is a Lundi Gras tradition for King Rex and King Zulu to arrive by ship to the riverfront to ring in festivities before their respective parades on Mardi Gras Day. The Monday immediately before Mardi Gras Day – also called Lundi Gras, “Fat Monday” – holds its own ever-evolving traditions and celebrations; prior to 1987, Monday was typically a day of rest; now, Lundi Gras is another day of celebrating prior to Fat Tuesday.
