Spc. Steven Smethurst (right), a Spokane, Wash. native, stands tall as he is promoted from the rank of private first class to specialist, March 19, at Joint Security Station Babil by his unit commander, Capt. Christopher Kliewer, a Tulsa, Okla., native. Both Soldiers serve in Battery B, 5th Battalion, 25th Field Artillery, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad. Smethurst was promoted with a waiver for being an exceptional Soldier with the battery.
