Brig. Gen. Jason E. Kelly, right, commander of the U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson, and Col. Timothy R. Hickman, garrison commander unveil the new sign for the post’s 1917 Club. The sign prominently features a drill sergeant hat, originally known as a campaign hat, which was the standard headgear when the post first opened in 1917. Hickman said the hat, ‘is an indication of professionalism and calls back to the time when the Army began growing some its most famous divisions.’
