The Honorable Robert M. Gates, Secretary of Defense, passes the U.S. Central Command flag to Lt. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey during a Relinquishment of Command Ceremony. Adm. William J. Fallon, Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, relinquished command to Lt. Gen. Dempsey, Deputy Commander of U.S. Central Command. Dempsey will serve as acting commander until the next commander is confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
