240108-N-VM650-1872 MANILA, PHILIPPINES (Jan. 8, 2024) Capt. Thomas Chekouras, is presented with a transfer gift from the Sailors of Commander, Destroyer Squadron (CDS) 1, during a change of command ceremony aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104). During the ceremony, Capt. Craig Trent relieved Chekouras as commodore, CDS-1. USS Sterett is in the Philippines for a scheduled port visit, supporting operational readiness and regional partnerships. Sterett is assigned to Carrier Strike Group 1 and deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
