Sergeant Thaddeus Herber, a Marine serving with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, was awarded the Bronze Star with combat distinguishing device here, Jan. 22, 2013. Herber, a native of New Braunfels, Texas, deployed with the battalion in 2011 and was awarded his heroism during a firefight in Afghanistan.
