231216-N-VM650-1041 SOUTH CHINA SEA (Dec. 16, 2023) Gunner’s Mate 1st Class Colten Hedrick, left, from El Dorado Springs, Missouri, requests permission from Damage Controlman 3rd Class Nathan Hunt, from Oceanside, California, to end gravity draining of fuel during a fueling-at-sea evolution with Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Yukon (T-AO 202) aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104). Gravity draining is the process of letting the remaining fuel in the fuel hose drain out without any pressure added, to empty the hose prior to retraction. Sterett, assigned to Carrier Strike Group ONE, is deployed to U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
