Airmen from the 27th Special Operations Wing gather to celebrate the announcement that four of their members were selected for promotion to Chief Master Sgt., the highest enlisted rank in the U.S. Air Force, Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., Nov. 29th, 2023. The rank of Chief Master Sgt. was first introduced to the U.S. Air Force in 1960 after Congress passed the 1958 Career Compensation Act, allowing for two additional ranks to be added to the enlisted force structure.
