Yorktown, Va. (December 7, 2023) Captain Dan Patrick, Commanding Officer, Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, receives a cultural resources and archaeological overview from Anthropology Professor Martin Gallivan from the College of William and Mary. Also pictured is John Kissler (left), Installation Environmental Program Director at NWS Yorktown and Bruce Larsen, Resource Branch Manager at NAVFAC-LANT (middle). The site visit onboard NWS Yorktown was geared towards awareness of the installation’s ongoing partnership with the College of William and Mary’s Archaeology and Anthropology Departments and for awareness as a continued field school site. The properties onboard NWS Yorktown contain a unique opportunity to examine sites of critical historical value, especially for those sites in danger of sea level rise and coastal erosion.
