231128-N-CW190-1133 PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 28, 2023) Sailors aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Kidd (DDG 100) hold the phone-and-distance (P&D) line steady during a replenishment-at-sea with Military Sealift Command dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Charles Drew (T-AKE 10). The P&D line is used to measure distances between ships while transferring items and fuel. Kidd, assigned to Carrier Strike Group ONE, is deployed to U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of free and open Indo-Pacific.
