Lance Cpl. Jackson Rodgers, a rifleman serving with 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, and a native of San Diego, uses binoculars to search for small military items in dense vegetation during a scout sniper screener here, Jan. 9, 2013. Marines serving with the battalion volunteered to take the screener to have a chance of becoming part of the Scout Sniper Platoon. Upon passing the screener, Marines are selected to become a part of the platoon and are sent to Scout Sniper Basic Course once their command is confident they’re ready. The screener consists of various training exercises and performance evaluations including fitness tests, academic tests and land navigation over a period of four days with just a couple hours rest between days.
