A reconnaissance Marine assigned to 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit's (MEU) maritime raid force prepares to draw his pistol on the flight deck of the USS San Antonio (LPD 17) while conducting maritime interdiction operations during the MEUís group sail exercise, Dec. 18, 2012. The exercise consists of multiple training scenarios to include a visit, board, search and seizure; different variations of raids; and tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel simulations. The 26th MEU operates continuously across the globe, providing the president and unified combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, sea-based quick reaction force. The MEU is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force capable of conducting amphibious operations, crisis response, and limited contingency operations. The 26th MEU is slated to deploy in 2013.
