The Honorable Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai presented a proclamation with U.S. Army Lt. Gen. John R. Evans, commanding general of U.S. Army North, and U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Jerimiah E Gan, senior enlisted leader of U.S. Army North, at the Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day Event at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, September 24, 2023. The last Sunday of September is dedicated to honor and support Gold Star Mothers and Families of fallen service members who lost their lives in active duty or during a time of conflict. “I will tell you that our society does not largely understand this and it’s not necessarily their fault. They just have no concept, they have no grasp of what life is for the young men and women or our country who have raised their hands, who have stepped into the breach not knowing what the future will bring, and then finding that ultimately their life is the price that must be paid,” said Evans.
