U.S Marines and Sailors with Marine Forces South and Marine Forces Reserve pose with international student officers from Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama and other partner nations for a photo during a Women, Peace and Security (WPS) briefing at the John C. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, June 8, 2023. The Marines shared their experiences working in the U.S. Armed Forces with students attending the Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School’s Strategic Leaders International Course (SLIC). The SLIC is a four-week in-resident course designed to build partner capacity by offering senior military leaders and government officials of partner nations new perspectives, methodologies, and opportunities for thinking strategically and for designing strategies that successfully address complex challenges. With the WPS Act of 2017, the United States became the first country with a comprehensive law to advance women's meaningful participation in defense and security sectors.
