U.S. Army Garrison Commander Col. Brian Jacobs and Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Hill met with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) leaders, including Regional Director Patrick Foster, Regional Remediation Engineer Jane O'Connell, Special Assistant Rodney Rivera, and Environmental Analyst Caitlyn Nichols on Aug. 8 in Long Island City. The purpose of the meeting was to review cooperative efforts on the Army installation with State DEC representatives. Discussions included upcoming Earth Day activities, a potential environmental education center, assessments of natural resources, personnel recruitment, regulations on unattended fueling facilities and remediation at Fort Hamilton.
