Members of the ceremonial color guard assigned to Naval Station Everett present a national ensign flown on board the battleship USS Arizona (BB 39) before it was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941. The flag was donated to NSE by Dr. Karl Voegtlin who came into possession of the flag when a fatally wounded Arizona sailor asked Voegtlin's father, a Naval medical officer at the hospital on Pearl Harbor, to "hold on to it for him until he gets better."
