U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Bryan Alfaro, sergeant major, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and Gen. Robert Magnus, retired, assist Cpl. Leonard Turner cut his birthday cake during his 100th birthday celebration at Mighty 8th Airforce Museum, Pooler, Georgia, Aug. 18, 2023. Turner served with 2nd Marine Raider Battalion and was nicknamed “Raider 96”. He served in Espiritu Santo, Guadalcanal, Efate, Emir’ au, Eniwetok, Kwajalein and was a part of the first waves into the battles of Bougainville, Guam and Okinawa.
