Soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 77th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, fire mortar rounds as part of a live-fire exercise at the Rodriguez Live Fire Complex in South Korea Aug. 17, 2023. The exercise allowed the mortarmen to improve their “fight-tonight” readiness with live rounds. The training also improved interoperability as Soldiers from the 1st Armored Division and 4th Infantry Division worked together throughout the event. Deemed Operations Warrior Fortitude, the mortar training was part of an 11-day armored gunnery and systems validation exercise where Fort Bliss based Soldiers integrated within 2nd Infantry Division, ROK-US Combined Division, to show a united front and reaffirm the Army’s ironclad commitment to the ROK-US Alliance while highlighting the robust combined defense posture and ‘fight tonight’ capabilities available to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary, while implementing and maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
