Officials at the 125th Fighter Wing welcomed U.S. Army veteran Obbie West to speak and lead a discussion on how to foster connectedness among Airmen within the wing, Aug. 18, 2018. West is a spoken word activist who calls people to action through vivid imagery and perspective concerning tough topics. He brings his poetry and ideas to audiences across the world, tackling tough topics such as abuse reduction and mental health. West's discussion at the wing centered around emotional intelligence, delving into how emotions affect relationships and how effective emotional interpretation can positively improve our relationships with others. His appearance was coordinated by the wing’s Primary Prevention Specialist, Erika Patterson, who ensures Airmen remain mission ready by offering educational tools and strategies that build resilience, encourage mindfulness and create healthier habits.
