Coast Guard Cutter Healy conducts science missions in Beaufort Sea [Image 2 of 3]
A diver from a joint U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy team, grinds a metal fin while underway on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20) in the Beaufort Sea, Aug. 12, 2023. The Healy and crew are preparing for a ceremony commemorating a fatal dive accident in 2006, in which two crew members lost their lives while on a diving mission in the Arctic. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20) is designed to conduct a wide range of research activities, providing more than 4,200 square feet of scientific laboratory space, numerous electronic sensor systems, oceanographic winches, and accommodations for up to 50 scientists.
