Coast Guard Cutter Healy conducts science missions in Beaufort Sea [Image 1 of 3]
An icebreaker USCGC Healy (WAGB 20) damage controlman welds a metal fin while underway on the Healy in the Beaufort Sea, Aug. 12, 2023. The work is being done in preparation for Healy’s planned ceremony commemorating a fatal dive accident in 2006, in which two crew members lost their lives while on a diving mission in the Arctic. The U.S. Coast Guard has a statutory duty to support oceanographic science and our longstanding commitment to Arctic science. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Briana Carter)
