U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Brian Hansell, the commanding officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 542, salutes the American flag and squadron colors during an assumption of command ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, Aug. 11, 2023. Hansell took command of VMFA-542 which was redesignated last December as the Marine Corps’ first East Coast operational F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter squadron.
