U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy’s (WAGB 20) ice rescue team, with a sea ice expert, begins surveying an ice floe for safety in the Beaufort Sea, Aug. 6, 2023. The Healy is the Coast Guard’s only icebreaker specifically designed for Arctic research, as well as the nation’s sole surface presence routinely operating in the Arctic Ocean, and the platform is ideal for projects like Arctic Mobile Observing System; providing access to the most remote reaches of the Arctic Ocean; areas barricaded by pack ice and insurmountable by most research vessels.
