U.S. Marine Corps Col. Matthew Danner, the commanding officer of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, presents a certificate of appreciation to Maj. Gen. Shingo Nashinoki, the commanding general of the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Regiment, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, during an after-action report for Talisman Sabre 23, aboard the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force helicopter destroyer, JS Izumo (DDH 183), in the Coral Sea, Aug. 4, 2023. We strengthen existing alliances and partnerships, and cultivate new ones, through development of interoperable capabilities, combined operations, theater security cooperation, and capacity-building efforts. TS23 is the largest bilateral military exercise between Australia and the United States advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific by strengthening relationships and interoperability among key allies and enhancing our collective capabilities to respond to a wide array of potential security concerns.
