    Renowned Reservist: Cpl. Ellis Holland

Photo illustration created to highlight Cpl. Ellis Holland with the 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, who was nominated as a Renowned Reservist during UNITAS LXIV at Coveñas, Colombia, July 31, 2023. Holland is an 0311 infantry rifleman and was a squad leader for his team during UNITAS.

Holland said, “I knew the Reserves were going to give me an opportunity to serve in a different capacity. My civilian occupation coincides with things I have learned in the Marine Corps such as patience, discipline, and the ability to maintain myself under duress with a firearm.”

Holland, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, is an executive protection agent, which consists of asset retrieval, high level asset protection, and asset reconnaissance.

He said, “My service in the Reserves benefits my job in the civilian world by giving me leadership abilities. For example, I like to run my own crew. I’m the manager for my state of Alabama. I’ve got multiple guys I can send, and even though I’m not with them, I can still trust them that they’ll do what I say because I know I’ve instructed them very well."

UNITAS, taking place in Colombia this year, is the world’s longest-running annual multinational maritime exercise that focuses on enhancing interoperability among multiple nations and joint forces during littoral and amphibious operations in order to build on existing regional partnerships and create new enduring relationships that promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility.
