U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Matthew Kovach, an expeditionary firefighting and rescue specialist, with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, takes part in a rowing competition aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6), in the Coral Sea, July 30, 2023. The competition was hosted by the morale, welfare, and recreation program, where Marines and Sailors competed, in groups of five, to reach 5K on the rowing machine with the fastest time. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is operating aboard ships of USS America Expeditionary Strike Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
