230714-N-OE749-1087 ATLANTIC OCEAN (July 14, 2023) Chief Culinary Specialist Elaine Nelson, assigned to the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5), heaves a line along with the ship’s chief’s mess as part of a replenishment-at-sea with the Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS William McLean (T-AKE 12). USS Bataan, along with the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), and Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), are currently on a routinely scheduled deployment to the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility. U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps routinely participate in scheduled deployments to improve combined combat readiness, increase operational capacity, and strengthen relationships among allies and partners throughout the region.
