Jason Villarreal (left), infrastructure assessment specialist, Charles Ifft (center), infrastructure assessment mission manager, and Doug Weber, infrastructure assessment action officer, all from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, look at a failed building with the same construction as a damaged fire station, Sea Bright, N.J., during an infrastructure assessment after Hurricane Sandy. The Corps of Engineers Infrastructure Assessment Planning and Response Teams (IA-PRTs) augment local efforts to inspect buildings that are primarily residential, and to manage inspections of public works facilities following a major disaster, as assigned by FEMA. The IA mission is intended to be highly flexible and scalable in order to meet the specific and changing needs of impacted communities during response and recovery efforts.
