Zumwalt is named after Adm. Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr., who served as the 19th Chief of Naval Operations, and the ship class is the next generation of multi-mission destroyers designed to strengthen naval power from the sea. Both ships are currently homeported in San Diego. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Mark D. Faram)
