SAN DIEGO (June 8, 2023) – The Zumwalt-class guided-missile destroyers USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) and USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001), moored side by side at Naval Station San Diego. Zumwalt is named after Adm. Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr., who served as the 19th Chief of Naval Operations, and the ship class is the next generation of multi-mission destroyers designed to strengthen naval power from the sea.
