On June 8, 2023, Texas National Guard Joint Counterdrug Task Force Drug Demand Reduction Outreach (DDRO) Task Force Members (TFMs) participated in Fort Worth Independent School District’s annual Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) summer camp in Azle, Texas. DDRO spoke with the students and staff about the dangers of fentanyl and the growing negative impact it is having on young people and students throughout Texas. The DDRO team shared life-saving tips, proper actions and responses, and education on identifying overdose symptoms with the students. The Texas Counterdrug members also answered questions about the military, the Texas National Guard, and their respective Texas Air and Texas Army National Guard branches by sharing past experiences, future military career plans and the various opportunities and benefits one could possibly gain from joining. Ultimately, DDRO provided the students with important substance abuse and misuse information while concurrently providing students with the opportunity to gain career information and different outlooks about potentially joining the Texas National Guard after high school.
