Brig. Gen. Brian Cashman, U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), deputy commanding general, speaks to graduates of the exercise African Lion 2023 partner academics in Agadir, Morocco, June 2, 2023. The academics portion of the exercise, led by U.S., Moroccan and multinational instructors, provided students with an overview of the U.S. Joint Planning Process (JPP) and culminated with a practical exercise in step one of JPP or mission analysis. Academics served to enhance partner understanding of planning processes and allowed students to display their individual experiences and subject matter expertise from their national and functional perspectives. Eighteen nations and approximately 8,000 personnel will participate in African Lion 2023, U.S. Africa Command's largest annual combined, joint exercise that will take place in Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia from May 13 – June 18, 2023.
